Most people use FTP to connect to a remote machine to transfer files. In many cases, machines are open to the public, however, some require special permission for using their resources.
In order to identify who has permission to "log" in, and who should be kept out, machines use "Login Name"s. A login name is typically a single word with less than 8 letters in it.
Login names are also used to authenticate you when you enter a restricted directory. If you lock some of your directories, you would need to enter your login name and password to enter those directories.
When you sign up for the InfoStreet Instant Web Service, you can choose your own login name. However, this name cannot be changed subsequently, therefore careful attention must be given to selecting your login name.
