María Agui Carter is a writer, producer and director, and president of Iguana Films, which specializes in thoughtful documentaries about culture and history. A graduate of Harvard University, and former staff producer for WGBH Boston, Maria was the only woman director featured in Discovery in Espanol’s Hispanic Heritage Month for her dramatic short, Cleats, which is currently screening in the festival circuit. She is completing two projects for PBS this year: Rebel, a documentary based on the memoir of a Cuban woman soldier of the American Civil War, and No Job For A Woman, a documentary about WWII women war journalists. |

Arturo Barquet is senior vice president of production finance at Universal Pictures and a CPA. He oversees finance for film development, production, music, and live stage productions. Arturo was voted one of the “Most Powerful & Influential Latinos in Entertainment” by the Imagen Foundation in 2008, and by Poder magazine in 2009. Previously, he worked at The Walt Disney Company as manager of financial controls in film production and at Price Waterhouse Coopers as senior auditor. A graduate of UCLA’s screenwriters program, Arturo was awarded best screenplay honors for The Emerald Cut, which was recognized as Imagen’s Best Short Film in 2000. |

Moctesuma Esparza is an award-winning filmmaker, veteran producer, entertainment executive, entrepreneur and activist. Moctesuma established Maya Cinemas, a growing chain of modern movie theatre complexes, and Maya Entertainment, the only Latino media content company providing full service motion picture distribution and production. The company’s first releases include LA Film Festival and Spirit Award winner August Evening, Sundance 2010 film The Dry Land; and Sundance award winner Sleep Dealer. Moctesuma’s production credits include Selena, The Milagro Beanfield War, The Disappearance of Garcia Loca, and HBO’s Walkout. He founded the Los Angeles Academy of Arts and Enterprise Charter School and co-founded the Smithsonian Latino Center. |

Evelyn Ledesma Galán is vice president of Galán Inc., an award-winning documentary film production company based in Austin, Texas responsible for the documentaries Chicano! History of the Mexican American Civil Rights Movement, Forgotten Americans, Accordion Dreams, the six-episode PBS series Visiones: Latino Art and Culture, and many more. She co-produced Los Lonely Boys’ Cottonfields and Crossroads, and most recently, A Migrant’s Masterpiece: The Life and Legacy of Patrick Flores, as well as The Big Squeeze. She is currently in development of The War Within for PBS. Evy founded South Texas’ CineSol Latino Film Festival.

Evangeline Griego is a long time independent filmmaker, and media activist. Her company, About Time Productions, in association with Red Envelope Entertainment (Netflix) produced Chevolution, a documentary about the iconic image of Che Guevara. As director, Evangeline just completed the documentary God Willing (2011 national broadcast). Previously, she directed the award winning documentary, Paño Arte: Images From Inside, Border Visions/Visiones Fronterizos and the Breathless in LA segment of the environmental series, Sierra Club Chronicles. Bienvenida Matías is an educator and filmmaker. She has produced documentaries both for public television and independently, including El Corazón de Loisaida. As a consultant, she works with filmmakers developing all aspects of documentary production. Much of her work involves mentoring young people in the art and business of social issue documentary. She recently produced, directed, and edited two short documentaries for artists in Oaxaca, which are Hojas de Papel and Dolores Porras: Soñando con Barro y Color. Previously, she was the executive director of the Association of Hispanic Arts, former publisher of The Independent, director of production at ITVS, and executive-in-charge of production at WNYC-TV. |

Flavio Morales is the senior vice president of programming and production at mun2, overseeing both west coast and east coast production, as well as managing the production team. Previously, he was vice president of programming, supervising all programming strategy and on-air content for the network. Under his leadership, mun2’s creative content has received extensive industry recognition, including a Peabody Award. Prior to joining mun2, Flavio was director of programming and music for LATV, of which he was a founding member. Porfirio Piña is senior director of Latin music at BMI, where he establishes and maintains relationships with Latin songwriters and publishers. He is also BMI Foundation’s director of the peermusic Latin Scholarship, a national competition for Latin songwriters and composers. Before joining BMI, Porfirio was instrumental in the development and management of many merengue hip hop pioneers, and managed talented songwriters in Latin music including Nicolas Tovar, who has written numerous hits for Ricky Martin, La India, and Cristian Castro. He serves as the co-chair of the National Academy of Recording Arts & Sciences New York chapter’s Latin committee.

Elaine Romero is an internationally award-winning playwright (!Curanderas! Serpents of the Clouds, Before Death Comes for the Archbishop, and Walk into the Sea). She was the first author to have her play Barrio Hollywood published in English and Spanish acting editions by Samuel French. Recently, she completed Xochi: Jaguar Princess for the Kennedy Center and The Dalai Lama is Not Welcome Here for InterAct Theatre Company. She is working on a National New Play Network commission to write Ponzi for Kitchen Dog Theater in Dallas. Current theatre productions include Rain of Ruin, Revolutions, and the upcoming A Simple Snow. |

Bernardo Ruíz is an award-winning independent filmmaker who recently wrote, directed, and produced a one-hour documentary for PBS’ “American Experience” about Roberto Clemente, an exceptional athlete and committed humanitarian who challenged racial discrimination to become baseball’s first Latino superstar. The film was awarded the 2008 NCLR ALMA Award for Outstanding Made for Television Documentary. Currently, he is producing a feature-length documentary, Gardens of Paradise, which has been supported by the Sundance Documentary Fund and ITVS. Previously, P.O.V. commissioned him to produce Migrations, one of PBS’ first forays into new media storytelling. |

José Tillán is the general manager and executive vice-president of MTV Tr3, the most-widely distributed television network dedicated to serving bicultural Latino youth. He oversees the overall content strategy of the channel and the development of branded entertainment. José is also the executive producer of all major productions including the awards show “Los Premios MTV,” and the multi-award winning series “Unplugged.” Previously, José was the senior vice president of creative, content and music at MTV Networks Latin America, responsible for the production, programming, content development and image of the MTV and VH1 networks in Latin America. |

Previously, Kirk served as publisher of Mexico Events & Destinations Magazine, Nevada Magazine, SOMOS, and Caminos Magazine. Juan Carlos Zaldivar is a filmmaker and artist. He teaches at the Art Institute at Miami International University. He is senior education coordinator for the Miami International Film Festival and is co-curating its new section Cutting the edge, featuring video art and cross-discipline work. His directing credits include the documentaries 90 Miles (PBS), The Story of the Red Rose (Showtime), and Soldiers Pay (Independent Film Channel). Juan’s artwork has been exhibited at numerous galleries including the Chelsea Art Space in London. He is the co-founder and tenured as the programming director of The Florida Room Documentary Film Festival, an event solely dedicated to social issue documentaries.
